Syria is about to enter its eighth year of conflict. One of the major battlefields is now in Afrin, a Kurdish majority city. Humanitarian officials say an estimated two-thousand civilians have fled Afrin in recent days. This is after Turkish forces and allied rebels moved within two-kilometers of the city. Turkey launched its offensive there in January. It aims to drive out the Syrian Kurdish YPG militia. Turkey sees the YPG as an extension of the PKK group that has fought a three-decade insurgency inside Turkey.
