The 2018 Boao Forum for Asia kicks off in China's southern-most province of Hainan this weekend. The four-day gathering carries the theme An Open and Innovative Asia for a World of Greater Prosperity. Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi briefed the media this morning on what to expect for the forum, which plays a unique role in pushing forward regional integration and solving global issues. Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend this year's Boao Forum for Asia and deliver a keynote speech at the opening ceremony as announced by State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
WANG YI CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTER "This is President Xi's third time to attend the Boao Forum for Asia as the country's president, which shows strong support and commitment from himself and the Chinese government."
Wang said since the forum was established in 2001, it has become an important bridge that connects China with the rest of the world. At this year's forum, China will unveil new measures on reform and opening up, outline the new blueprint for the country's development and new proposals for a shared future with other nations.
WANG YI CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTER "Over 2,000 distinguished guests from around the world will gather together. We will discuss win-win cooperation and a pathway to prosperity and development, contributing Boao wisdom and Boao strength to Asia and to the world."
The forum will run from April 8th to the 11th in Hainan Province's Boao with the opening ceremony scheduled for April 10.
