China will lift over 10 million rural residents out of poverty this year, including 2.8 million people who are to be relocated from "inhospitable areas," Chinese Premier Li Keqiang said on Monday.
Li made the remarks in his government work report to lawmakers during the opening meeting of the first session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, which is being held in Beijing from March 5 to 20.
The Chinese government has pledged to increase support to areas affected by extreme poverty.
China has lifted over 68 million people from rural regions out of poverty over the past five years, according to Li.
