A Russian transport plane has crashed in Syria killing all 39 people on-board, including 33 passengers and six crew members. Russia's Defense Ministry said the AN-26 aircraft crashed on Tuesday, as it made its approach for landing at an airbase near the city of Latakia. Officials say the plane was not attacked, and that a technical malfunction may have caused the crash.
The Defense Ministry has set up a commission to investigate the incident. According to the Kremlin, Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his condolences to the families and friends of those who were killed.
