The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) season is a month away, but reigning MVP Jimmer Fredette has already caused a stir online after images of his first signature shoe with China’s 361 Degrees surfaced.
The Jing Feng 361, which will be released in multiple colorways, received strong approval on Twitter. A tweet by ESPN’s Nick DePaula showing Fredette’s new shoes received 4,600 likes and 1,900 retweets. The response was overwhelmingly positive for the footwear, designed by the Xiamen-based athletic company.
However, a release date was not mentioned and the shoes are not yet available on the 361 website.
Fredette was a star at Brigham Young University in the US, earning player of the year honors during his final season with the Cougars. He went on to become a high draft pick with the Sacramento Kings, but his NBA career fizzled out after playing for four different teams in five seasons.
He found new life in China after signing with the Shanghai Sharks. In his first season, Fredette averaged 37.4 points, 8 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game, including a 73-point outing against the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions that went viral. His stats were impressive enough to garner MVP recognition.
Fredette reportedly eyed a return to the NBA, but instead decided re-sign with Shanghai for another two years. Their season begins on October 22.
