We finish with some more football and the often under-appreciated and much maligned theatrical aspect of the beautiful game. In the Chilean Primera Division, forward Jean Meseses of Universidad de Concepcion managed to fool the referee into awarding his team a penalty kick for what was clearly a blatant dive.
Concepcion are in yellow and Meneses wins the ball near the byline, then goes down face first and the ref immediately points to the spot. Another Concepcion player looks all set to argue for the kick, but no need.
It gets even better when seen up close as Meneses appears to push the Colo-Colo player then go to kick, only to pull his leg back and crumple to the ground in howls of agony.
Here it is again. You've got the push, the dive, and a penalty kick is awarded. With the score knotted at 1-1, this decision would be instrumental in the outcome of the match. Concepcion convert the kick and go on to win 2-1 thanks to Meneses' less than convincing, but ultimately effective bit of blatant buffoonery.
