Targeted poverty alleviation has been a main topic at this year's Two Sessions. President Xi has addressed the issue in over 25 significant speeches and reports. And his views on poverty alleviation are built on over 30 visits to poverty-stricken areas over the past 5 years. On December 29th last year, President Xi addressed the importance of fighting poverty at the Central Rural Work Conference. This echoes his words from the 19th CPC National Congress report.
XI JINPING CHINESE PRESIDENT "We should continue to implement targeted poverty reduction and alleviation measures. We must ensure that by the year 2020, all rural residents living below the current poverty line, will be lifted out of poverty, and that poverty is eliminated in all poor counties and regions. Poverty alleviation should reach those who truly need it, and should deliver genuine outcomes."
