A new name will be added to the list as China works to develop its own Bay Area economy with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, also known as Greater Bay Area. /CFP Photo

The Greater Bay Area was made up of China’s Hong Kong and Macao Special Administrative Regions and nine cities in Guangdong Province. /CFP Photo

Plans for this area was initiated in China’s 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2022) in a bid to give full play to the distinctive strengths of Hong Kong and Macao, and elevate the roles of the regions in the country's development and opening up. /CFP Photo
