China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks on Friday at the request of Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson of the UK. They exchanged views on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
Wang Yi clarified China's principled stance, and stressed that China has made enormous efforts in safeguarding international nuclear non-proliferation system, and will continuously, comprehensively and strictly implement the UN Security Council resolutions concerning the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
Wang Yi also called for all parties to take respective due responsibilities. He said the "suspension-for-suspension" proposal put forward by China is conducive to curb the escalating tension, and contributes to finding out a breakthrough to resume peace talks. It is hoped that all parties could give serious consideration and actively respond to it.
Johnson spoke highly of China's positive role in the Peninsula nuclear issue and showed deep concern over the continuously escalating situation, and expressed hope for an effective approach of negotiation at an early date.
