China and Nepal have inked a dozen new agreements as they vowed to increase connectivity. This comes as Chinese Premier Li Keqiang hosted visiting Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in Beijing. Wu Guoxiu reports.
China and Nepal, agreeing to strengthen economic and infrastructure links between the two countries. One of the highlights of a set of new deals signed during talks in Beijing is a cross-border railway, which was first envisioned in 2016.
KONG XUANYOU CHINESE VICE FOREIGN MINISTER "Both sides agreed to cooperate on the Gyirong - Kathmandu railway project, build an electrified railway across the border, connecting Gyirong in the Tibet Autonomous Region and Rasuwagadhi in Nepal, and further extending to Kathmandu."
The two countries want a transportation network that crosses the Himalayas. They also want more direct flights between the two countries.
Premier Li says he met Prime Minister Oli in the same room in 2016. He said China supports Nepal as it seeks to forge its own development path.
Oli says his visit can open unique opportunities for concrete measures that can develop the friendship between the two countries.
Premier Li and Prime Minister Oli also witnessed the signing of agreements on investment, trade, technology and post-disaster relief.
