While feathers may be more common around the home in pillows or in feather dusters, they're also useful for painting. In northwestern Beijing's Yanqing district, a folk artist is using her creativity to express her expectations for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
Using feathers as a brush. These two pictures depicting winter sports like skiing and snowboarding are made by Tang Qiuyuan. The pictures aren't very big, but they took five days to make. Feather painting originated in the Warring States Period and used to be reserved for royalty. Tang learned the technique from her family. She's added her own creativity to the ancient craft.
TANG QIUYUN FOLK ARTIST "In this painting, I want to show the tranquillity of my hometown. And I've used modern techniques like layering to make a painting that has more dimensions."
