Clear-up work is in full swing across Mosul after the government forces declared victory over terrorist group ISIL in the northern Iraq city.
Despite the liberation, military vehicles and security forces are still deployed in the streets. The anti-terrorism forces said the clear-up will not be completed quickly.
“There is only sporadic resistance in some areas under siege in the Old City. We're doing clear-up every day, but need more time as the city is very large,” said Mukdim Thaer from the Iraqi anti-terrorism forces.
Thaer said anti-terrorism forces will eventually withdraw from Mosul, as they prepare for the next battles, likely in Hawija and Tal Afar, and other security forces units will take over to safeguard Mosul.
