Ukraine thankful for ‘powerful symbol’ of US support

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko for talks in Kiev on Sunday, in a bid to resolve the ongoing conflict that has claimed around 10,000 lives.
Tillerson said his primary goal is the restoration of Ukraine's territorial sovereignty and integrity, and he will explore ways of changing the status quo in the region.
Poroshenko said he saw Tillerson's visit as a "powerful symbol" of American support for Ukraine.
The meeting came a day after the G20 summit in Hamburg that saw the US President Donald Trump meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time.
