Business leaders at this year's APEC China CEO Forum in Beijing say they're optimistic about the future of globalization despite the ongoing trade tension between Beijing and Washington. Many said they believed China could continue its high-quality growth and that there was no hope for protectionist policies. CGTN's Sun Ye has the report.
Speaking about America's controversial trade policies, Yu Jianlong from the China Chamber of International Commerce said the organization was fully behind the Chinese government's position.
YU JIANLONG, SECRETARY-GENERAL CHINA CHAMBER OF INTERNATIONAL COMMERCE "We are resolutely against trade protectionism, just as we resolutely root for multilateralism. When we look at today's volatile trade landscape, all of the commerce sector shares the same view, that we will continue to push for further globalization."
SUN YE BEIJING "While the business leaders have gathered to discuss the future of the Chinese economy, they all understand the severity of the ongoing trade war with the US. However, the sentiment here has been unanimous, that the only way forward is globalization and multilateralism. And because of China's commitment to those concepts, the country's long-term growth isn't in jeopardy."
CARSTEN BREITFELD CEO & CO-FOUNDER, BYTON "We are all for globalization and don't think trade friction will affect our company or the industry too much. China still has great market potential and will continue to grow fast."
Daling Family -- a company that partly deals in cross-border e-commerce -- said it also doesn't expect to be significantly impacted from the trade friction, as domestic consumption and production remains on track.
In trying to further advance inclusive global growth, the attendees also agreed that China has undergone great changes over the past five years.
Its path of high-quality, sustainable development, they say, will not be undermined by outside forces.
