MOFA briefs on Xi’s agenda for APEC

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a news briefing on Chinese President Xi Jinping’s agenda for the upcoming 2017 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting.
Xi will attend the 25th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Da Nang, Vietnam, from Nov 10-11, at the invitation of Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said.
Xi will pay state visits to Vietnam and Laos from November 12 to 14, at the invitation of Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang, and Bounnhang Vorachit, general secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and President of Laos.
China attaches great importance to ties with Vietnam and Laos. Xi’s visit will inject new vitality to ties with ASEAN countries, Chen Xiaodong, Assistant Foreign Minister, said at the briefing.
Vice Foreign Minister Li Baodong said APEC has been a pioneer and pathfinder in regional and global economic cooperation and development.
The international community expects APEC to play an effective role in promoting regional economic integration and advancing regional economic cooperation, Li added.
Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen said advancing regional economic cooperation is one of APEC’s priorities and the APEC meeting is expected to improve trade policy environment.
