Typhoon Noru has torn a path through Japan's main island of Honshu, leaving havoc in its wake before moving in a northeasterly direction off the Sea of Japan coast.
The typhoon brought heavy rain to swathes of Honshu. Public broadcaster NHK said two people are dead and as many as 47 are injured.
The storm prompted evacuation orders or advisories affecting thousands of people. Transport networks nationwide have been severely disrupted. Landslide and flood alerts are still in place. Evacuation advisories also remain in place for about 106,000 people spanning eight prefectures.
