As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, China takes responsibility in maintaining world peace, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday, adding that the country is now better positioned to help settle global and regional disputes.
He made the remarks at a press conference on the sidelines of the first session of the 13th National People's Congress in Beijing, in response to questions on China's foreign policy and external relations.
"There are things we would do, and there are things we would not do," Wang stressed, explaining the Chinese approach to settling disputes around the world.
China upholds "peaceful, justifiable and constructive" principles, rejecting the use of force and the imposition of one's will on others, he said. The country calls on handling disputes in a fair way through dialogue, according to Wang.
