At the start of the Wimbledon championships at the All England club, there were six Chinese women players in the draw, but only Peng Shuai and Wang Qiang advanced into the second round of women’s singles.
After her Wimbledon dream came to an end at the hands of Venus Williams, 25-year-old Wang told CGTN about her experience and her intense match with seven-time grand slam winner Williams.
"This is my third time competing at Wimbledon, and the first time I have won a match here. I'm happy about that. I think I played well in these two matches, and showed that my training has paid off," she said.
"In the match against Venus, I played well in the first set, and also in the beginning of the second set. When we were tied 3-3, I misplayed some crucial points. Venus adapted to my playing style and took control of the match. I conceded the set very quickly."
Wang took the first set, but the match finished 6-4 4-6 1-6.

"My goal this year is to make it into the top 30. At the same time, I hope to improve my technique, my ability to read the game, and concentrate better on the court. I don't think Chinese players are familiar with playing on grass courts. We need more time to improve."
Wang, the world number 55, was not only knocked out of the women's singles competition by five-time champion Williams, but also saw her Wimbledon doubles' journey come to an end, after losing in straight sets (5-7 5-7) with her partner Darija Jurak of Croatia in the match against Ukranian pair Lesia Tsurenko and Lyudmyla Kichenok.
World number 37 Peng Shuai lost a tough draw against world number two Simona Halep in the third round, losing 4-6 6-7.
