At least three people were killed, including a mother and her son, and five more were injured after a fire broke out in a 36-story apartment building on Friday in Honolulu, the capital city of US state Hawaii, a spokesman from local fire department said.
More than 100 firefighters were dispatched to the site.
The fire started from the 26th floor and spread to other units at the Marco Polo Apartment Condominiums, said David Jenkins, the spokesman.
The fire would have been contained to the original unit had the building been equipped with a sprinkler
system, city officials told Star-Advertiser newspaper.
