Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor vowed to integrate into the national development strategy on the basis of the "one country, two systems" principle and make new contributions to the Belt and Road Initiative.
Hong Kong will play a significant role in finance and investment, infrastructure and shipping, economic and trade cooperation, people-to-people ties, development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and project interfacing and dispute settlement, Lam said.
Lam made the remarks on Saturday during a forum at the Great Hall of the People, which was co-hosted by the Hong Kong SAR government and Hong Kong "Belt and Road" General Chamber of Commerce. Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhang Dejiang also participated in the forum.
Zhang noted that supporting and encouraging the participation in the Belt and Road Initiative of both Hong Kong and Macao is a key move of implementing the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the CPC. Hong Kong should give full play to its advantages in the process, build a diverse cooperation platform and promote cultural exchanges, Zhang said.
The Belt and Road Initiative, proposed by China in 2013, aims to build policy, trade and infrastructure networks connecting Asia with Europe and Africa with the goal of bringing benefits to all.
