A spate of terror attacks targeted Mali recently. Chinese peacekeepers stationed in the country have been taking extra measures to ensure they're able to protect citizens. Asta Tall has the details.
These drills are far more than just practice.
After a recent attack on the UN mission in Mali, Chinese peacekeepers are making sure they're ready for any combat situation.
ZHANG DONG DEPUTY GUARDS CHIEF, CHINESE PEACEKEEPING BATTALION "We are simulating a compound attack. Recently, terrorists disguised themselves as UN personnel and launched an attack."
This is the fifth batch of Chinese troops seconded to Mali. They're among the more than 11-thousand peacekeepers stationed at the UN mission.
XIE QICHUN TEAM LEADER, CHINESE PEACEKEEPING BATTALION "Our East War Zone organization commander conducted an analysis of the most recent attack. With the research we formulated countermeasures. The identification process is part of a scientific response."
In the middle of May, the current troops will be replaced by a sixth batch of Chinese peacekeepers, ready to protect Malians at all costs. Asta Tall, CGTN.
