Chinese ride-hailing giant Didi Chuxing announced Friday that it will team up with Japan's telecommunications corporation SoftBank Group to enter the Japanese market. According to Didi, the partnership will use its technology to raise the efficiency of operators and drivers in the Japanese taxi industry. The two firms aim to establish a joint venture and begin trial services in several cities in Japan this year. Didi is now the world's largest ride-hailing platform. It purchased Uber's Chinese business in 2016, and last year the company had about two million drivers connected to its mobile app, who in total have carried out more than a billion rides.
