Chinese authorities have approved the master plan for the Xiongan New Area, with a goal to move capital Beijing's non-capital functions into the new area.
Xiongan will actively collaborate with Beijing municipal government in terms of public policies, taking on the responsibilities of pulling in more standardized higher education institutions, medical services, company headquarters, institutional organizations and others. The area is also innovating its policies, to make sure that the companies can root from here and eventually "stay" in the region.
The area serves as a special economic zone that connects Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province, the creation of which will be of "lasting importance for the millennium to come".
The plan has been approved by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, according to a document released Friday.
