Pakistan is looking to capture a share of the Chinese market with its products at the first ever China International Import Expo, which opens in Shanghai next month. Our correspondent Danial Khan visited a Pakistani company that is participating at the event.
Business and trade relations between Pakistan and China have intensified in recent years. So far 11 Pakistani companies have confirmed participation at the China International Import Expo. The range of products Pakistan intends to promote include wheat, rice, surgical instruments, leather, garments and textile.
DANIAL KHAN KARACHI "I'm at Rajby, one of the largest garments manufacturing industries of Pakistan, mainly exporting denim products to top designer brands globally."
Established in 1972, the company has formed a considerable footprint in the international denim market.
MUZUMMIL ISMAIL GENERAL MANAGER, RAJBY INDUSTRIES "We have a monthly capacity of about 1.3, 1.4 million garments that we are producing and we are exporting. we have 6 factories, 4 stitching units, and 2 laundries, then we have a textile mill that has a capacity of about more than 3.2 million meters a month."
For the CIIE, Rajby plans to exhibit a new line of products, especially for the Chinese market.
DANISH ADAM CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER, RAJBY INDUSTRIES "China is right now going through a change in the economic paradigm. We want to cater to the Chinese market because the cost of manufacturing in China is going to go high, so we are developing certain products for the Chinese market, that we can explore and supply to the local Chinese brands there, local companies."
Experts say the CIIE will create more opportunities for extensive and in-depth trade cooperation between Pakistan and China.
JUNAID ESMAIL MAKDA, PRESIDENT KARACHI CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY "This is a great opportunity for us to participate in this exhibition, and also to exhibit the products and we can get some orders out of it and this can be revenue generation for Pakistan and it will be a beginning for Pakistan."
Many believe that China and Pakistan's economies are complementary to each other and this has been testified by close business and trade relations.
MASOOD NAQI DIRECTOR, RAJBY INDUSTRIES "China is the upcoming market for Pakistan now, and the progress we are making right now, Pakistan and China, I think it's time to show your existence in China and through this China International Import fare is very important for us."
With companies from both countries willing to engage in more extensive and in-depth cooperation, experts say the Expo will further create opportunities in the areas of business, trade, culture and people to people exchange. Danial Khan, CGTN, Karachi.
