The China Democratic League (CDL) has closed its 12th national congress in Beijing on December 10. Ding Zhongli was elected as chairperson of the CDL.
The CDL was established on March 19, 1941, in China's southwestern city of Chongqing, and took its current name in 1944. It mainly consists of senior and mid-level intellectuals who are engaged with culture, education, science and technology.
The CDL worked closely with the CPC to create a democratic, peaceful, independent and unified New China during the Chinese People's War against Japanese Aggression and the Chinese Civil War.
Since China’s reform and opening-up policy began, the CDL has been fulfilling its responsibilities and making important contributions to political life under the leadership of the CPC.
