Artificial Intelligence was among the many highlights as the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show Asia kicked off in Shanghai on Wednesday. CGTN's Wu Lei brings us this report.
This year's CES ASIA features some 20 product categories. Generating the most buzz is Artificial Intelligence, a technology that's changing lives around the world. Traditional consumer electronics makers such as Changhong have embraced AI to make their products better.
LI XIAODONG, SPOKESMAN CHANGHONG "Based on big data, deep machine learning and AI, our traditional home appliance companies have to keep up with trends and meet growing market demand."
There is a dedicated area for AI this year, and over 30 companies have their latest products and innovations on display. Internet giant Baidu is one of those firms.
AI can be applied in every aspect of our daily lives including smart home, self-driving cars, smart cities. But exhibitors say there is still much to be improved in the user experience side.
CHAI LIANGZHI, PRODUCT MANAGER ALLWINNER TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD. "One of the major challenges is whether the company can make the user experience as smooth as possible. So far there is still much to do in the field of photo and voice recognition."
The Consumer Technology Association's CEO Gary Shapiro said both Chinese and US companies are leading in AI innovation and development in the world. And making breakthroughs to bring the industry to a higher level takes time.
GARY SHAPIRO, PRESIDENT AND CEO CONSUMER TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATION "Artificial intelligence is very good at specific tests, at playing one game, but it is much more difficult and challenging to think on its own, to draw conclusion, to move on to its next level, that is where it could have breakthrough in the next 20 or 30 years, no one really knows, we are not just there yet."
He hopes AI companies from both countries will have more cooperation to tackle these challenges. That's something the show's expected 40-thousand visitors would love to see. WL CGTN SH.
