General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping met General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi on Sunday.
It is Xi's first overseas trip since he was re-elected General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee after the 19th CPC National Congress in October.
The two leaders agreed to deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership under new circumstances.
After the close door meeting, they witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the joint implementation of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative and Vietnam's "Two Corridors and One Economic Circle" plan.

Xi said the talks with Nguyen Phu Trong were fruitful and they exchanged views on a range of international issues. The two sides also have signed a series of deals, Xi added.
Xi said a stable bilateral relationship is beneficial for the people of the two countries as well as for regional peace and stability.
Xi said China and Vietnam are close neighbors, and China will continue to create favorable conditions for common development of the two countries and is committed to peace and stability in the region.
Ahead of his state visit, Xi said in a signed article that the two countries should manage their differences and pursue a durable solution to their maritime issues. "We need to fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, actively advance the consultation on a Code of Conduct in the South China Sea and jointly uphold peace and stability there," he said.
