The Yanhuang ethnic group is considered to be the founder of the Chinese people and the initiators of Chinese culture. The group's main achievement was to unite two tribes, the Yan and the Huang, to strengthen their civilized community. Nowadays, Chinese people consider themselves descendants of the Yan and Huang Emperors. CGTN reporter Christy Scull has more.
This solemn style of worship and dance, which is done during sacrificial activities, takes us back thousands of years, to when the Huang or Yellow Emperor unified tribes along the Yellow River Valley and supposedly founded the Chinese nation and culture. Historians believe sacrificial ceremonies dedicated to the Yellow Emperor started in 442 BC. Later on, the annual ceremonies became a ritual tradition.
LIU LIYING, PRESIDENT CROATIA CULTURAL EXCHANGE CENTER "As an overseas Chinese, I am thrilled to attend this event. We are not only here to search for our roots, but also looking for more opportunities to better serve the country."
Legend has it that the Yellow Emperor ruled the land for exactly one hundred years. And he taught people skills such as how to cultivate their own food, make clothes and treat diseases.
QINGMING CELEBRANT "I am very proud to attend this ceremony. I hope our Chinese nation can truly realize the Chinese dream all over the world."
Huge bells ring out across the temple, 9 times in total. The drums struck 34 times, once for each provincial-level region, including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan.
LIN JINYU VISITOR FROM TAIWAN "We have a long long history. And we share the same ancestor, Huangdi. I hope there will be more cooperation in culture and economics."
The ceremony highlights how Chinese people inherited their unique civilization and continue to pursue a dream of rejuvenation. CGTN. Christy Scull.
