One of the four men arrested by Australian police over an alleged airplane terrorist plot has been released from police custody in Sydney, said police on Wednesday.
The 50-year-old, named as Abdul Merhi, was released without charges Tuesday night. But the other three men remain in custody even though no charges have been filed.
Merhi along with the other men were arrested last Saturday during raids by New South Wales Joint Counter-Terrorism team after intelligence reported them attempting to bring down an Etihad Airways passenger plane using an improvised device.
Local media has alleged the men planned to use poisonous gas or a crude bomb disguised as a meat mincer.
But the Australian Federal Police has not confirmed details of the allegations as the investigation is still ongoing and promised to provide further information at an appropriate time.
Etihad Airways confirmed on Tuesday that is was assisting Australian police with the investigation.
