A global conference on 4K-8K displays and new technology has opened in south China, drawing in tech gurus and government officials from across China. The event aims to promote the country's achievements in the field, while also exploring how innovators can bring their audience a crisper and clearer experience. CGTN reporter Omar Khan reports.
China's southern city of Guangzhou is once again leading the way in technological innovation.
Representatives from China Media Group, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and a handful of industry leaders have gathered to discuss what's next for the world of Ultra High Definition video.
The 2019 World Conference on Ultra HD Video comes on the heels of an action plan launched by the Chinese government in March.
It aims to further promote collaboration and development within the booming sector.
NIE CHENXI DIRECTOR, NATIONAL RADIO & TELEVISION ADMINISTRATION "As a product of major technological innovation and certain industry cores, UHD video is an important part of achieving high-quality development. The theme of this conference fully reflects the strategic vision and strategic actions of Guangdong Province, while also leading the way with an innovative kinetic energy."
Industry experts and research all point in the same direction – that China's video industry is on the rise.
One forecast pegs the sector's value at around 4-trillion yuan.
Meanwhile rotating chairman Xu Zhijun of tech-giant Huawei, predicts China will have more than 200 million 4K users by next year.
And as for the province of Guangdong alone, the industry is expected to exceed 800-billion yuan by 2022.
The world's largest media organization on the other hand, CMG, has already made strides in delivering UHD content via 5G networks…
JIANG WENBO MEMBER, CPC BRANCH COMMITTEE OF CHINA MEDIA GROUP "On October 1st last year, China Media Group opened the first 4K Ultra-High Definition video channel. And over the years, China Media Group has been promoting the standardization and development of the entire industry."
With a theme of "Ultra HD vision, lighting up the Greater Bay Area", the event is also going global.
Tech representatives from the US, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom are set to attend 7 sub forums.
The industry's growth is expected to develop chip production, display panels and broadcast networks.
JIANG WENBO MEMBER, CPC BRANCH COMMITTEE OF CHINA MEDIA GROUP "First, we must promote the integrated development of radio, television and new media, and give full play to the production capacity of video and audio. The production capacity and level of high-quality new media will provide ultra-high-definition programming content."
OMAR KHAN GUANGZHOU, GUANGDONG PROVINCE "There's arguably no better place to be when it comes to the ultra high definition video industry than south China. Guangdong is the first province in the country to build a UHD industry development pilot zone. And it's also promoting the construction of a global UHD video experience center which will be China's first. Omar Khan, CGTN, Guangzhou."
