Sierra Leone's President Ernest Bai Koroma has declared seven days of mourning across the country with immediate effect, after a devastating mudslide left hundreds of people dead. Koroma also appealed for urgent help for the flood-hit capital of Freetown.
The mudslide happened early Monday, after a hillside in the Regent district of the capital gave way following a torrential rainstorm.
According to BBC citing a spokesman of the president, almost 400 people have been confirmed dead and at least 600 are still missing. An estimated 2,000 people have been made homeless by the disaster.
