NPC Standing Committee confirms validity of all 2,980 deputies

The Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, confirmed Saturday the validity of all the 2,980 newly-elected deputies to the first session of the 13th NPC.
More women, farmers and workers have been elected to China's top legislature, as election results for a new National People's Congress (NPC) were approved Saturday.
A total of 2,980 deputies have been elected from 35 electoral units across the country. They represent people from all walks of life including each region, ethnic group and sector of society. 
Among them, 438 are from ethnic groups, accounting for 14.7 percent of the total; there are 742 female deputies, accounting for nearly 25 percent of the total number and a 1.5 percent increase from the previous term. 
There are 468 frontline workers and farmers, accounting for nearly 16 percent of the total, two percent higher than the previous term. 
The qualification of the new deputies was confirmed through a vote at the 33rd session of the 12th NPC Standing Committee.
