The Catalan government reported that 90 percent voted in favor of secession in a banned referendum to leave Spain on Sunday.

In a press briefing, regional government spokesman Jordi Turull said over 2 million Catalans voted "Yes" to the question: "Do you want Catalonia to become an independent state in the form of a republic?"
