Government officials say that China's economy continued steady development in April despite external uncertainties and internal imbalances that have continued since the beginning of the year.
The government said that ongoing trade tensions between China and the US have had a minor effect on the domestic economy. A spokeswoman for the National Bureau of Statistics said that was due to stable production in the manufacturing and services sectors. Spokeswoman Liu Aihua also cited growth in demand along with steady employment and prices.
LIU AIHUA, SPOKESWOMAN NATIONAL BUREAU OF STATISTICS "In April, among 31 big cities and other regions across the country, the unemployment rate was below 5%, which was a drop compared with the same period last year. The favorable employment situation fully proves that the macro situation is basically stable."
Meanwhile, new sectors and products including high-tech manufacturing, e-commerce and energy products also witnessed rapid growth from January to April. The number of newly registered companies reached a record high of about 20,000 in April based on the relatively rapid growth in the previous year.
LIU AIHUA, SPOKESWOMAN NATIONAL BUREAU OF STATISTICS "Despite the external uncertainties and internal imbalances since the beginning of this year, the economy has continued to maintain a stable, steady, and positive development, which has laid a very strong foundation to realize the annual economic goals."
Liu said that as the world's largest market, China will continue to expand its reform and opening-up policies. She said that the government would also continue to encourage innovation and technological development.
