Major League Baseball: Bald eagle lands on Seattle Mariners pitcher
[]
We have a soaring finish here on Sport Scene as we head to the States where the Seattle Mariner's James Paxton made a new friend before his team's baseball game at the Minnesota Twins. Challenger the Bald Eagle boasts the prestigious title of being the first of its kind in US history trained to fly on its own into major sports stadiums, arenas, and ballrooms when the national anthem is being played. But before this game, the free-flying bird went a little off course and decided to perch on the 29-year-old pitcher.
Here is plucky old Challenger. After hearing the final few notes of the Star Spangled Banner it swoops into action. The handler, despite being poised and ready for landing, is ignored in favour of Paxton who reacts rather calmly in all fairness. What makes this episode even more brilliant and funny, is that the Canadian is seen in a commercial on local television where he has to look after some nest eggs in his hat. Maybe the eagle has been watching too much TV! Or it was just a case of a simple misunderstanding. Probably the latter. Definitely the latter.
