US President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday to kick off a three-day state visit to China.
The US president and First Lady Melania Trump were received by Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi at Beijing Capital International Airport.
He will be the first head of state to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping following the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.
Ahead of his arrival, Trump tweeted: "[I] will be headed to China where I very much look forward to meeting with President Xi who is just off his great political victory."
Xi and Trump will be together for the third time this year after their meetings in Mar-a-Lago and Hamburg.
The two leaders are expected to “have an in-depth and strategic exchange of views on the major issues of common concern," including the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said on Tuesday.
Besides the main activities for the state visit, the two heads of state will also participate in small group and informal interactions, Hua said.
