The 43rd Toronto International Film Festival has announced the first batch of selected films, which include 21 world premieres, 7 international premieres and 8 North American premieres. Chinese director Zhang Yimou's "Shadow" and Jiang Wen's "Hidden Man" are among them. Let's have a look.
"Shadow" and "Hidden Man" are among the 36 selected films and will be screened in the Gala Presentations Category. "Shadow" will have its north American premiere and "Hidden Man" will have its international premiere.
"Hidden Man" is set on the cusp of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. A spy, played by Eddie Peng, returns to China set on revenge, but finds himself plunged into a high-stakes game of intrigue, love, and scheming. It is controversial actor-director Jiang Wen's energetic follow-up to Let the Bullets Fly and Gone with the Bullets.
Master filmmaker Zhang Yimou brings a completely original cinematic style to an epic battle story, contrasting visuals that draw on China's centuries-old tradition of ink-wash painting against next-level fighting sequences to dazzling effect.
Other noteworthy films in the lineup include A Star Is Born, Ben Is Back, Burning, Mouthpiece and Shoplifters.
Founded in 1976, TIFF is one of the largest publicly attended film festivals in the world, attracting over 480,000 people annually.
The 43rd Toronto International Film Festival will take place this year between September 6th and 16th. YR, CGTN.
