General Secretary Xi Jinping's report to the 19th CPC National Congress has been translated into various languages that were handed out to the foreign press.
Those who translated the report had a sensitive job that requires close attention to detail. The foreign experts who did this are experienced in translating China’s top political documents. Some have worked in China for as long as 20 years.
As the first foreigners to read the report, they sat down with CGTN to share their impressions.
What impressed me most in the report is people are always prioritized. People own the country, the country exists to serve the people, it’s very clear in the report.

I noticed the report clearly calls for strengthening anti-corruption efforts. I’m also impressed by the content on restoring the ecosystem.

I think Xi Jinping is a very great leader. He doesn’t only stay in the office, he goes to stay among the people. From the world’s perspective, he shows innovative thinking, he is very flexible in dealing with problems. He hopes to avoid conflicts and wars and promote world peace.
- Keovichith Lamngeun, Lao editor
The biggest changes I see in China over the past five years have been the achievements in science and technology, like space and deep sea exploration.
- Josep-Oriol Fortuny Carreras, Spanish editor
This Congress sets short to medium-term development goals for China. It also makes a medium to long-term development plan. It’s unprecedented and has pointed a path for China’s future.
- Mustafa Mohamed Ahmed Yahia, Arabic editor
China is a big power, but not an imperialist power, not a colonial power. It’s just a big peaceful socialist country. It doesn’t want to repeat the development path of big powers like in the past. It just wants peace and self-development, while also helping other countries. I think this is very important. I hope other countries can understand, but not fear, China.
- Peggy Raphaelle Cantave, French editor
