China's Beidou Navigation Satellite system is entering a critical stage. CGTN reporter Ning Hong visited a testing facility, where many young researchers are working to build the world's third global navigation satellite system.
Teams are hard at work building the Beidou Navigation Satellite system. The project is entering a new phase, with multiple launches scheduled for later this year.
HAO WENYU DIRECTING GENERAL DESIGNER OF BEIDOU-3 SATELLITE "We are responsible for some very intensive work involving the design, launch, network construction, and operation of the Beidou system. It is quite challenging."
China launched two Beidou-3 satellites in 2017, the start of a complete navigation satellite network. Many people working here are in their 30s, and now they are the pillars of China's space industry.
Zhou Huichao is a directing designer of Beidou-3 satellites. He is also a CPC party member, attending regular meetings with other members. He says the theme of these activities is cohesion, care and stimulation.
ZHOU HUICHAO DIRECTING DESIGNER OF BEIDOU-3 SATELLITE "Cohesion and care help our team to ease the heavy pressure on our team. Stimulation encourages them to share their skills and vision through interacting with each other."
He is happy to see that the management and work flow has made significant improvements here.
ZHOU HUICHAO DIRECTING DESIGNER OF BEIDOU-3 SATELLITE "We used to need one or two engineers for each of these positions, now we have teams made of five people working on multiple projects at the same time. It's a great improvement on efficiency."
Beidou is an open system for international users. It aims to provide services to various sectors, such as transportation, finance and information services.
NING HONG BEIJING The Beidou Navigation Satellite system is now being widely adopted, and if you take a look at this app, you can find all the satellites that my cellphone is now connecting with, there are GPS's, Glonass from Russia, and of course the Beidou system. All of these services would certainly provide a better service. The Beidou Navigation Satellite system will be completed in 2020, with more than 30 satellites in orbit. Ning Hong, CGTN, Beijing.
