Former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani died on Sunday due to heart complications, aged 82.
Rafsanjani, president from 1989 to 1997, was a dominant figure in the country's politics.
Rafsanjani was a founding member of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution and a confidant of the current supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, for much of the 1980s and 1990s.
There will be three days of national mourning.
