Footage of five people fishing with an electric net in Shimian County in southwest China’s Sichuan Province has sparked outrage online. The group was detained on Saturday. Vast amounts of fish are shocked, captured and then sold in the electrofishing industry. Electrofishing is officially illegal in China, but the practice is rampant because of its simplicity and low cost.
