Lula Corruption Case: Court rejects former Brazilian president's bid to delay prison
[]
Brazil's Supreme Court has rejected former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's bid to delay a 12- year prison sentence. The 6-to-5 ruling means that the most popular leader of Brazil could be arrested within days.
Lula was found to have accepted a bribe worth some 3.7 million reais, or 1 million dollars. Lula claims the charges are politically motivated, and designed to prevent him from running in the presidential election. Lula was the frontrunner ahead of the October 7 polls.
