China criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to a disputed Sino-Indian border region on Thursday, saying the Indian side should stop any move that might "complicate" the boundary issue.
"The Chinese government has never recognized the so-called Arunachal Pradesh and is firmly opposed to the Indian leader's visit to the disputed area," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said.
Modi is on a tour of India's northeastern states.
Geng said the two countries had reached a consensus on how to solve the disputes properly – through negotiation and consultation.
“The Chinese side urges the Indian side to honor its commitment and abide by the relevant consensus, and refrain from taking any action that may complicate the boundary question,” he added.
Last year, China and India has a military standoff lasting more than two months in Dong Lang, another disputed part of the border, that ended with India's withdrawal of troops.
