Test Cricket: Cricket Australia launches ball-tampering probe

Following the scandal which resulted in the suspension of captain Steve Smith, Cricket Australia have launched an investigation into Saturday's ball tampering incident. In the last few days Smith and batsman Cameron Bancroft, admitted to orchestrating a plan to interfere with the ball during the third test with South Africa, and reports are already surfacing that the weekend's incident could be just the tip of the iceberg.
According to England's Daily Telegraph newspaper, coach Darren Lehmann is set to step down from his role before the fourth test begins on Friday. Sources claim the ex-all rounder planned to pre-empt Cricket Australia's investigation by leaving more than a year ahead of his planned exit which was originally after the 2019 Ashes series. After receiving a one test suspension, Smith has since left his post as the captain of Indian Premier League side Rajasthan Royals so the team can prepare for the upcoming campaign "without ongoing distraction". Ex-England captain, Michael Vaughan told the BBC he is pretty sure the Baggy Greens were doing similar things during their 4-0 series win over England at the end of last year.
