Police in east China have arrested an 18-year-old man after pictures emerged online appearing to show a young girl being sexually assaulted in the middle of Nanjing Railway Station, Jiangsu Province.
Weibo user @WriterChenLan published the photos, apparently taken on August 12, of a young man putting his hand inside a girl’s dress in a public waiting area in the station.

“A witness sent me the photos anonymously,” @WriterChenLan wrote on Weibo. “There are only three seats available. The girl was the only one left standing beside three adults. But after a while, the young man asked the girl to sit on his knee.”
The girl of about 12 years old doesn’t seem to react to the groping.
The group of photos has gone viral online. Chinese netizens rebuked the man and questioned why nobody in the station protested at his behavior.

Local police in Henan Province announced the arrest on Tuesday following a two-day investigation. They said the girl was adopted by the family of the 18-year-old man.
“If they give up the adoption, who will take care of the orphan? Even if the girl stays with the family, she could be abused again. This affair has hurt the girl anyway,” said @LanCC on Weibo.
“Obviously this is not the first time the young man sexually abused the girl in public, as he had no concern when he did it and the girl didn’t struggle at all. I feel so angry. He must be punished,” commented @Yuxiaofengxiang.
