Chinese scientists discovered a cluster of 54 giant karst sinkholes, known as “tian keng” in Chinese, within an area of 5,000 square kilometers in northwest China's Shaanxi Province. They are believed to be among the largest karst sinkhole clusters in the world. The researchers have also found around the sinkholes a dozen species of wildlife and plants and rare species listed as vulnerable.
