Sri Lanka has declared a state of emergency for 10 days to rein in the spread of communal violence. It comes just a day after Buddhists and Muslims clashed in the island's central district of Kandy. The government has vowed to take action against those inciting racism, condemning it and the "mischievous misinformation" campaigns carried out on social media, which they said had clear objectives of inciting violence and creating dischord between the two communities.
