A new round of UN-sponsored Syria peace talks is set to begin in Geneva on Monday. UN officials will meet separately with delegates from the Syrian government and oppositions, in a bid to put an end to the civil war in Syria.
The UN's Special Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, said the new round of indirect talks will once again focus on four issues, namely establishing a united government, amending the constitution, rerunning a general election, and anti-terrorism. De Mistura said that UN law experts will also serve as consultants for both sides.
Despite UN efforts, little progress was made in the previous six round of talks. The civil war is said to have killed more than 400,000 people.
