The blockbuster film - Avengers: Endgame hit theaters last month. So far, it has raked in nearly 500 million dollars at the Chinese box office alone. CGTN's Lu Sirui talked to some viewers, to see what drew them to the film.
Recalling memories while holding back tears. Fans of Marvel Studios say goodbye to the 11-year reign of superhero films churned out by the U.S. media franchise giant. 22 movies on, many shared their thoughts after watching Avengers: Endgame.
"I have followed these movies for so many years. I feel so attached to those superheroes."
"I like this type of heroism reflected in the movie. I like Iron Man and Captain America. I think they are very wise and strong."
"I like this type of commercial sci-fi movies. They always give me good visual and sound experience."
Over the past 11 years, the Marvel Universe took fans by storm. It was also an era in which the Chinese movie market grew rapidly. Chinese fans have grown with the market, and feel connected to Marvel's many superheroes.
GENG LING, FILM PRODUCER CEO OF CHINA FILM ASSIST CO. "All these movies, they build up fans, they build up the empire, they build up the history, they build up the culture. What can be more satisfying than being part of the history."
Being die-hard fans of Marvel though, Chinese viewers hope that one day China's filmmakers also produce such good movies.
"I hope Chinese movies can improve viewers' visual and sound experience."
"Chinese movies fall short of good storytelling. Story themes are not clear enough, and tend to cram in too many ideas into one film. I hope that Chinese movie-makers can learn to tell one story in one film."
"If we take a look at the box-office of Chinese films, China is competitive in the market. Also technically speaking, China is potentially competitive in the global market. But China never spent such a long time building a movie 'universe' like Marvel did."
Experts say while China's filmmaking industry has made substantial progress in the last 20 years, the nation is in need of an industrialized movie production line.
GENG LING, FILM PRODUCER CEO OF CHINA FILM ASSIST CO. "You have to structure it scientifically, and make it a complete system so each one can carry out their roles in the whole system. And also, we need to follow the rules and laws of film production. You have to put professionalism in it and your honesty. That's the way to attract your audience."
