A kindergarten teacher in Shanghai has allegedly stabbed children with a pen during nap time on Wednesday. Police are looking into the case. CGTN's ZHENG CHUNYING has the story.
They are outraged and demanding an explanation.
Parents of four children at the Morgan Rothschild Academy in Shanghai reported to police after finding scratches on their children's faces and bodies.
Surveillance video showed a nursery teacher had struck the children, with a pen earlier in the day to force them to take a nap.
RONG HUIJUAN, DEPUTY DIRECTOR MORGAN ROTHSCHILD ACADEMY "At first she used the pen to scare the kids, but it didn't work. Then she stabbed them to get them to take naps. Now three kids have scratches on their faces, and one kid on the arm."
And it doesn't seem to be a one-off.
"She stabbed us with pen every day. She said we are too naughty."
The teacher, who was only identified as Wang, has been fired.
According to the deputy director of the kindergarten, the 63-year-old teacher had been working there for over 13 years even though she lacked the necessary qualifications.
RONG HUIJUAN, DEPUTY DIRECTOR MORGAN ROTHSCHILD ACADEMY "She was formerly a cleaner at the kindergarten, and she has no certifications for child care."
Wang was detained on suspicion of maltreating people under her care, and the case is still under investigation.
Much stronger actions are needed to improve the safety of toddlers and ensure their healthy development.
